HELLO,
It’s been a while.
2023 was an odd year – I’m just going to leave that there on account that I am in no way ready to unpack any of it, certainly not publicly. I guess what I’m trying to say here is, there’s been not much by way of updates to this website due to circumstances – however – I was still going out places and writing notes. Now, in the first of quite a bit of catch up, here’s Damasqino – a place I first went to back in 2019/2020 I think, and are well overdue a review.
Full disclosure – I actually visited back in June 2023 for this review. Prices may have changed, but so long as they’re still doing what they did back then, I have no hesitation in recommending this place highly. Here’s my notes from my phone: “10/10 – £4.50 for a chicken wrap in the year 2023, and the chilli sauce is probably the best in town. Better than their neighbour? Who can say. Certainly up there.”
For context, I actually was in town for a trip to Shawarma King but, you know, queue out the door and all that, so I thought “fuck this” and wandered around the corner. The first time I’d been to Damasqino I hadn’t been all that impressed, but I’m pleased to say in the intervening years, they’ve upped their game. For one thing, the restaurant is now futuristic – they had an automated kebab cutter, for instance. Didn’t get a shot sadly but it’s right by the window if you want to check.

So, that’s what £4.50 got me back then – a full sized shawarma wrap with the works inside, and I mean, the works!

Tender meat! Chunky, and I mean CHUNKY, pickles, and probably the best red sauce I’ve had in a long, long time.
The trouble with reviewing kebabs is, once you’ve said the same stuff over and over again, it becomes more difficult to convey a particular message, or to highlight quite why one place is better or worse than another, and with Damasqino I don’t have a lot to say! This is not a bad thing, however – they’re unassuming, and do everything right for not a lot of money. As such, why waste words?
Damasqino, Saltmarket
